YOU AND YOUR TV AFTER 2/17 /2009

On or before February 17th, 2009, all TV stations will be required to broadcast only DIGITAL TV signals, they will no longer broadcast ANALOG signals. What does this mean to you?

(1)   If you have a relatively new TV, one that can receive digital TV signals there is nothing for you to do if you have cable or Dish service. Your cable will either be plugged dirctly into your TV (in which case you receive basic cable TV signals that will be digital, or you will have a cable box of some sort, if you subscribe to to other than the basic channels). In either case the signal coming into your Digital TV will be a digital signal and there is nothing for you to do.

(2)    If you have an older TV that does not have the capability of receiving digital signals and you plug your cable directly into the TV you will need to purchase a digital TV signal converter box (see information below) to be able to reeive a TV signal.

(3)    If you have an older TV as described above but you have a cable box attached to it there will be nothing for you to do since the cable box will convert the signal to digital.

(4) TV's in the United States will receive only digital signals as of February 17th, 2009.

(4)     If you require a digital converter box, then you can obtain a coupon from the Federal Government worth $40.00 each (limit 2 per household).
ONCE THE COU0PON IS ISSUED IT IS GOOD FOR 90 DAYS ONLY AND IF NOT USED TOWARD THE PURCHASE OF A CONVERTER BOX DURING THAT PERIOD OF TIME IT WILL EXPIRE AND NOT BE RE-ISSUED OR RENEWED.

(5)     To obtain your Federal coupons please choose one of the following options:
          (a) Toll free phone # 1-888-388-2009
          (b) Mail: P.O. Box 2000 Portland, Oregon 97208
          (c) Deaf or hard of hearing, dial 1-877-530-2634 (for Englisy TTY)
          (d) Internet Access www.dtv2009.gov
The above options are for obtaining the government coupons.

(6)    Converter boxes will be available at most electronic stores, and other retailers carrying TV's

(7)    Remember, your coupon(s) expire(s) 90 days from the date of issue so if you request a coupon, use it within that period of time.
